Howick Church of England Primary School

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength."

The Howick Way

“What is distinctive about a Christian based school? It’s something to do with ethos atmosphere and the way in which people feel valued.”

Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams

* * *

At Howick Church Endowed Primary School we create an ethos and atmosphere where everyone feels valued as a unique person.

Our aim is to provide a safe environment in which a child is valued and in which a child can find security, acceptance, reassurance and an opportunity to develop their potential. We aim to create a caring and happy community in which Christian values are upheld.

Our school is a place where:

∗ Children and adults alike are engaged on a life-time’s journey.

∗ Each person is uniquely valued and their gifts and potential are nurtured and developed.

∗ Each member of the school knows he or she belongs to all the other members and accepts the responsibility of caring for one another and for God’s world.

∗ Christ is the centre of our community where we live, love and learn.

At Howick we have 6 core Christian Values and they are at the centre of everything that we do. We believe these values empower our pupils to develop their spirituality and guide them in personal development as effective learners and good citizens.   Each half term we will be focusing on a different value.   This will be done explicitly through our Collective Worship time, but also throughout our curriculum. Children will have regular opportunities to reflect on each value and to develop an understanding of the value in action. Each Friday, in our Celebration Assembly, we will acknowledge children who have demonstrated these values.

Our Values

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13

Autumn 1 Friendship
Autumn 2 Hope
Spring 1 Trust
Spring 2 Forgiveness
Summer 1 Truthfulness
Summer 2 Thankfulness

Class 1 are being friends to our environment.

A beautiful friendship tapestry created by Class 2.

Well done to our student council for presenting a worship based on friendship.

Our Chair of Governors attended and sent a letter of thanks.

Well done to our Student Council for leading Collective Worship and sharing their circles of hope.

We look forward to spreading hope during the season on Advent.

Well done to all of the Howick Community for spreading joy this Advent through our shoebox appeal.    The Student Council have made 36 boxes which will be sent to those less fortunate than us.

The children have been reflecting on their hopes for themselves and others.

This amazing art work has been created by our Class 4 children.

Following a whole school Collective Worship, led by our Student Council, all of our classes have helped to produce this wall display.

During Collective worship we have explored the many words that finish the sentence God is... , developing out understanding of God and the many aspects of his Character and seeing that we can trust in him.

We have looked at stories in the Bible where people have shown trust in God, using their examples to influence our own lives.

We have been using our prayer and reflection area as a space for thinking about what we are thankful for.

Values in action

It is so wonderful to see the Howick community playing and reading outside using our new resources.  We can see our values and vision in action - well done everyone.
