British Values at Howick

At Howick, we develop and promote British Values throughout our school and within our curriculum.

A key part of our vision is to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our school reflects British Values in all that we do.  We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant citizens who make a positive difference to British society and to the world.  We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

Class 3 Democracy

Class 3 have been exploring ways we can express our opinions and campaign for democratic change.  They have taken part in a Q&A and a debate, representing a different character and delivering their desires powerfully through argument, persuasion, fact and opinion.

Class 2 Democracy

Class 2 have used the text "Farmer Duck" to explore how views count.  They have talked about the importance of teamwork, expressing/justifying their opinions, listening to others and respecting the democratic process.

Class 4 Democracy

As part of their work on Democracy Class 4 visited UK Parliament in London.  We had a wonderful day learning about how Parliament works and then went to Westminster Abbey for a tour.  We also managed to find time for some sight seeing and souvenir shopping!  Well done to Class 4 who were fantastically behaved throughout.

Class 2 Rule of Law

We read Little Red Hen and realised that the hen wasn't treated fairly.  We created some rules for his friends to follow so that they all got the same.

We also played Naughts and Crosses using the rules but then a game without the rules.  We noticed that there was no chance of winning, everyone got louder and no one got along.

Class 3 Rule of Law

Class 3 used the theme of games to explore the rule of law.  There were lots of fantastic discussions and debates, all showing their understanding.

Tolerance

As part of our work on tolerance, the whole school celebrated World Religion Day,  Each class had a different focus and the we all took part in some wonderful drama sessions with One Day Creative.
