British Values at Howick
At Howick, we develop and promote British Values throughout our school and within our curriculum.
A key part of our vision is to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.
Our school reflects British Values in all that we do. We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant citizens who make a positive difference to British society and to the world. We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.
Parliament Week
As part of our Parliament Week activities, we were delighted to welcome our local MP, Mr Paul Foster to school. He spoke with pupils about his role in government, helping them deepen their understanding of democracy in the United Kingdom and how citizens are represented at a national level.
Following his talk, children had the opportunity to ask questions and share their views on local issues. Mr Foster listened carefully and committed to taking their concerns back to the relevant decision‑makers.
This experience encouraged pupils to reflect on their responsibilities as courageous advocates—recognising that their voices matter and that everyone has the potential to be a positive change‑maker in their community.
Class 3 Democracy
Class 3 have been exploring ways we can express our opinions and campaign for democratic change. They have taken part in a Q&A and a debate, representing a different character and delivering their desires powerfully through argument, persuasion, fact and opinion.
Class 2 Democracy
Class 2 have used the text "Farmer Duck" to explore how views count. They have talked about the importance of teamwork, expressing/justifying their opinions, listening to others and respecting the democratic process.
Class 4 Democracy
As part of their work on Democracy Class 4 visited UK Parliament in London. We had a wonderful day learning about how Parliament works and then went to Westminster Abbey for a tour. We also managed to find time for some sight seeing and souvenir shopping! Well done to Class 4 who were fantastically behaved throughout.
